It was a spectacle unlike anything the city of Kollam had ever witnessed in its long and rich history. Q marathon succeeded in igniting a spark of awareness across the minds of town’s people. For the first time, a group of students from an engineering college had put their efforts forward to create a sense of awareness towards a greener and safer tomorrow, the very theme of CONJURA’12.
Q-marathon emerged out successfully, thanks to the hard work and determination of the students of TKM College of engineering. The success of Q marathon lies in the fact that it was wholly, a work of students. Neither professional athletes with big reputations nor masterful organizers were behind this endeavor. As dawn broke over Kollam on 22nd January, 2012; about 150 of the finest athletes of TKM set off from Neendakaraharbor, the wastebin of the city.
he selection of this particular starting point was deliberately chosen with a clear motive. The marathon practically exhorted to the authorities to be more diligent and committed on keeping the city clean. The runners passed through the key points of Kollam city before culminating at Kollam beach. It truly tested the physical ability and sheer determination of the participants. Jithu Kottayil of 3rd year ECE was the winner and bagged the cash prize of Rs 5000. He was followed by Sreekanth of 4thyear mechanical engineering and Vaishak of 3rd year ECE; who received cash prizes of Rs 3000 and Rs 1000 respectively.
Just as Q marathon was coming to a close, the 2nd part of the event kicked off from Chinnakkada – The green march. Around 500 students marched from Chinnakkada to Kollam beach, holding placards proclaiming the necessity of protecting the environment and preventing pollution. The congregation then proceeded to cleaning the expansive beach itself, thus being a model to the whole city. Participants in the Marathon as well as the march were feverish with excitement over the event. “It’s amazing to be a part of such a venture. I’m proud of doing my part for the environment”, said the winner of the event. All in all, the Q marathon and the green march set the perfect tone for the upcoming CONJURA’12. We believe that this initiative will instill in you a way of rethinking your everyday life to walk along a greener path.

“When we heal the earth, we heal ourselves.”
Green is the present world’s call of the hour, the only way left to ensuring that earth’s stability and resources are preserved. Green technology needs to be fostered firmly in the work bibles of all industries or companies, be it the IT, construction, power or mechanical. All sectors of development need to establish “green” in their curriculum. Likewise, simple changes in our living habits can also route major changes towards sustainability. Development cannot be stalled as man’s wants know no bounds. Develop therefore, but not at such costs. Replace father profit by mother nature! Think green!
The invention-driven world has brought us to a cross-road. Either we can continue life as today with no care about the future or we can join hands in fostering this world into a one in which our progeny can live in peace. Going green is not an option any longer. It is the only solution to the problems caused by man’s thirst for establishment, the wings for safer sustained mornings to come. Green be the way lest man wants not to be finished by the fire he started.
CONJURA ’12 aims at bringing forth a change. We shall light a spark- tiny, yet powerful enough to cause a revolution in the world! CONJURA aspires to unite all the technical wizards of the world to conjure up a technological miracle for creating a healthier and more secure world. We shall create, alter and restore technologies and technical ideas that can give birth to new hopes. We shall reflect on the existing issues, establish effective solutions and motivate the initiation of a new beginning. CONJURA is all set to design a path for the world to move towards a safer, greener tomorrow.
